Lisbon School Department
  Consolidation Update - 5/14/2008

 The Commissioner of Education has approved Lisbon as a "doughnut hole" under the State's consolidation law, which entitles Lisbon to remain as the Lisbon School Department.  The District needs to file an Alternative Plan for the Commissioner's approval indication how we will make budget reductions to limit the impact of the decrease in State subsidy.  The school department has a -1.9 % proposed 2008 - 2009 budget over the current 2007 - 2008 budget to address this subsidy reduction.  We will submit an Alternative Plan outlining how we've made those reductions and our future plans to explore additional cost-saving measures.  The Plan is due to the Commissioner by June 13, 2008.  The School Committee will consider a draft of this plan at their meeting on Monday, June 9, 2008.
